It’s time to kick-off Forme’s 30-day offline challenge with a focus on notifications!

Inspired by kikki.K’s ‘30 day offline challenge’ and Go Offline journal, Forme have accepted the challenge to unplug from the digital world, and we are so happy that you have come along for the ride!

Today we take on the first challenge, ‘turn off notifications on your phone’.

Smartphones have become an integral part of our lives. We’re constantly connected to our phones, talking, texting, checking emails and scrolling through social media. Our phones are always close by and it’s almost as if they are an extension of our bodies.

While it’s great to have all these resources at our fingertips, phones are a continuous distraction. Even when we’re not looking at them, they are calling out to us through notifications, constantly breaking our concentration and decreasing our productivity. You might think it’s only for a few seconds, but research shows that it takes an average of 25 minutes to get back on task after an interruption! (Gloria Mark, University of California, Irvine)

This week let’s make a stand! Just for one day, switch off your phone’s notifications. Still check your text messages, emails and social media feeds, but do it at a time that is convenient to YOU.
